These collection of images are QSL cards—written acknowledgments used in amateur radio (ham radio) to confirm a successful two-way radio communication (a QSO) between operators across the globe. During the mid-20th century, the prefix VS9 was the official amateur radio callsign prefix designated for Aden (and surrounding South Arabian territories) under British administration. Operators issued these cards detailing time, date, frequency band, signal strength (RST code), and station specs to keep official logs and collect contact confirmations.
تُعد هذه المجموعة من الصور بطاقات "QSL"؛ وهي عبارة عن إقرارات مكتوبة تُستخدم في مجال راديو الهواة (Ham radio) لتأكيد نجاح عملية اتصال لاسلكي ثنائي الاتجاه (تُعرف بـ QSO) بين المشغلين في مختلف أنحاء العالم. ففي منتصف القرن العشرين، كان الرمز "VS9" هو البادئة الرسمية لنداء راديو الهواة المخصصة لعدن (والمناطق المحيطة بها في جنوب الجزيرة العربية) إبان فترة الإدارة البريطانية؛ حيث كان المشغلون يصدرون هذه البطاقات متضمنةً تفاصيل مثل الوقت والتاريخ ونطاق التردد وقوة الإشارة (وفق نظام ترميز RST) ومواصفات المحطة، وذلك بهدف الاحتفاظ بسجلات رسمية وتوثيق تأكيدات الاتصال.
