On 27 April 1954, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, made a historic visit to Aden, then a British Crown Colony.

Arriving aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, they were welcomed by colonial officials, community leaders, and cheering residents lining the streets of Steamer Point (Tawahi).

The Queen inspected British forces, attended civic receptions, and toured key sites highlighting Aden’s role as a vital naval and commercial port linking the East and the West.

The visit underscored Aden’s strategic significance within the British Empire and remains one of the most memorable events of the colonial era.
