Born in 25 December 1936, is a member of the British royal family and the only daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. She is also the only living granddaughter of George V, a niece of Edward VIII and George VI, and a first cousin of Elizabeth II.Â
In December 1961, Princess Alexandra of Kent paid an official visit to Aden during the final decade of British administration. Representing her cousin, Queen Elizabeth II, the Princess undertook the visit as part of a wider royal tour of British territories and protectorates in the region.
At the time, Aden was one of Britain’s most strategically important overseas possessions, serving as a major refueling port, commercial hub, and military base linking Europe to Asia and East Africa.
Upon her arrival in Aden, Princess Alexandra was formally received by the Governor of Aden, Sir Charles Johnston, who was serving as Governor from 1960 to 1963.

Princess Alexandra returned to Aden in 1962, shortly after her December 1961 visit, as part of a Far East tour to visit ancient ruins. This stop was added to her itinerary, causing logistical issues for the Colonial Office, with the detour costing roughly £125,000 in modern terms.Â
